Towcester Bell Project 2020

The time has now come. After 30 years of ringing our fine bells - one of only 145 rings of 12 in the world - when we need to do some serious maintenance, including replacing 7 of the huge wooden wheels on which the bells rotate. John Taylor & Co. of Loughborough have provided us with a quote for around £13,800 to do the necessary work, so we are now setting out to raise the money. We hosted the Robert B Smith Trophy ringing competition on the 28th September, which gave us the opportunity to make a good start to our fund-raising, through proceeds for the bar, and food sold for breakfast, and a BBQ.

If you would like to help us in reaching our target, you might like to:

  • Make a donation towards the cost of the repairs – if you can ‘Gift Aid’ it to us, that's even better! In return, we will give you a very special certificate, marking your donation.
  • Ask us about ringing a ‘quarter peal’ for your special occasion – a piece of ringing lasting about 50 minutes in return for a donation.
  • Buy a mounted and framed 8” x 6” photo from the top of the tower for £10 including this picture of the weather-vane! Christmas is coming!

If you have never been up the tower, or seen the bells, come and visit us to see what goes on one Friday evening when we practice.
